Barry exit Ninian Stuart Cup

Barry 3rd XV produced a spirited display on Wednesday night but it was not enough as they exited the Ninian Stuart Cup.

Manager Frank Greig was afforded the luxury of naming six replacements for this fixture, but unfortunately they were up against Clwb Rygbi who were smarting from a heavy defeat from Barry 2nd XV just the weekend before.

The younger and faster backs of the home side saw them take an early 14-0 lead.

Barry finally managed to string together some moves and the recalled Joe McCann was on hand to score his first try of the season.

Barry battled hard but their defensive frailties let them down as Clwb continued to keep the scoreboard ticking, despite Barry's obvious superiority in the tight.

Former Welsh international Jon Bryant rolled back the years to crash over for a try early in the second half to give the 3rd XV hope.

Adam Lee also got on the scoresheet late on but that was nothing more than consolation as the game was already gone.

Barry 3rd XV will now face Caerau Ely 2nd XV in the Ron Locock Cup semi-final, to be played on Wednesday 20th April, venue to be announced.
