Injuries and other matters are certainly taking their toll on Barry's end of season performances as they suffered a further defeat last Saturday this time at Llanishen.

The defeat came as no real surprise as they took the field missing at least six regular 1st XV players and others playing out of position.Credit therefore to the boys who stepped up and certainly didn't disgrace themselves and fought to the end.

Barry began the game well and had all the early pressure and got the first score of the game through a Kyle Barross penalty.

They maintained this but it was obvious that Llanishen had some pace behind when they did get the ball.

The first scrums of the game saw Barry having problems and on the retreat.However from one such situation usual hooker Alyn Evans, today playing at No8, managed to gather the ball much to Llanishens surprise and cross unopposed for a try wide.The try was unconverted but gave Barry an 8 point lead.

As in last weeks game Barry messed up the restart which resulted in a Llanishen lineout in the 22.The pace of the home backs was sufficient to breach the defence for an unconverted try in the corner

This success was all Llanishen needed to decide that attack was the best form of defence and should have had a second try from the kick off only for poor handling to let them down.They continued in this vein assisted it must be said in some way by the missed tackles that were harming Barry, but somehow they prevented Llanishen scoring.

It came as a total shock and against the run of play.when Barry stretched their lead with a second try for Alyn Evans.

Barry had got themselves upfield but were struggling to really bother the home defence. Noticing this stalemate Kyle Barross cleverly chipped over the defence and the alert Evans was quickly on hand to gather and cross the line for the try which again was not converted tac

The Llanishen response was immediate and a near replica try was scored as Barry  had restart problems and more bad tackling let them in for a second try again unconverted saw the gap close with the half nearly over to only one point. at 13 - 12.

.Somehow Barry survived the final minutes of the half and ironically were still in front at this point.

The second half began quietly with neither side getting any real advantage but the standard of Barry's tackling was still concerning.

This proved to be the case when a messy clearance from Barry gave Llanishen a near open field to attack and as the first up tackles failed they crossed unopposed for a converted try and now held the lead at 19 - 13.

As the half progressed had Llanishen been more accurate in attack the scoreline would have changed dramatically.That said,

 some credit should be given to the efforts of the Barry side who kept fighting despite the unfamiliarity of the players with each other.

Perhaps another try was inevitable and so it was as the hardworking defence left a gap from a scrum to open up the tryline for a converted try and the lead stretched to 26 - 13 with some 15mins left.

This last period was probably the best that Barry enjoyed all afternoon and on another day could have seen them score a couple of tries.Two scintillating breaks from full back Harry Morgan-Grant had try written all over them only for the final pass not to go to hand.They spent minutes camped near the Llanishen line but  quite get the ball over the line.

It was not to be though and the remained the same till the final whistle.

Not the result that Barry wanted obviously but the young boys that came into the team certainly would have learnt a lot which can only help in their development for the future.

While Barry have missed out on promotion this time around, they could have a big say in which two sides do over the coming weeks.With three teams fighting for two places, Barry face all three beginning with a home fixture with leaders Cilfynydd this saturday kick off at 2.30pm.This is followed on the 28th April,away to Gilfach Goch and the following saturday, 5th May, Cambrian Welfare are the visitors.Their is still one home game against Cardiff Harlequins to arrange.

Lottery Numbers last week were 13 - 16 - 17 and 23 which nobody matched.The £10 consolation for three numbers also failed to find any winners. This week's jackpot increases to £1350
