Barry storm to sixth straight victory

Barry recorded their sixth straight win in a hard physical battle against Llanishen last Saturday coming away with a

28 points to 13 victory mainly due to the boot of Kyle Barross who contributed 23 of those points with Ashley Adams getting the only try of the game.

However, the single try does not reflect the numerous scoring chances the team created, but more about the superb defensive performance of Llanishen which thwarted Barry time and time again.

Had they not fallen foul of the referee so often, the result could have been different.

A lively opening period saw both sides testing each other out with neither having the upper hand and a penalty apiece were the only scores in the first 15 minutes.

Changing tactics Barry began to bring the backs more into the game but as the forwards had found, space was limited as the tight home defence refused to budge and it was two further penalties that gave them the lead as half time approached.

Llanishen were also spreading the ball when the chance came, but the Barry defence was matching the home sides and giving nothing away and on half time a further Barross penalty gave them a 9 point lead as the whistle went.

A mix up at the restart saw Llanishen in the Barry 22  and although they initially cleared the danger the hosts came back to stretch the defence to score an unconverted try wide out.

Barry regained the ball from the restart and drove into the heart of the home defence setting up a ruck short of the line. As the ball was recycled Adams picked up the loose ball to cross for a well worked try, converted by Barross

to leave the score at 19 - 8 to Barry.

Barry seemed to be getting on top up front but despite the efforts of the backs the home line stayed intact and it was another penalty which increased the lead.

Once again Llanishen came back on the attack and after winning a lineout close to the line spread the ball at pace where they outstripped the Barry defence to cross for a well worked try which went unconverted but reduced the deficit to 9 points.

Stung into action, Barry responded and launched a series of attacks which all ended short of the line as Llanishen

held them out. Both Einan Scott and Luke O'Sullivan looked to have created scores but either the final pass didn't go to hand or they were halted by a last ditch tackle.

The final minutes saw Barry in control and a further break from White nearly created a second try but the last two scores were left to Barross, one from 50mt out, to end the scoring and a highly entertaining game.

Barry had had to work really hard to earn this victory and the result was a credit to their work ethic and team spirit.

They are turning into a side prepared to fight for each other and are fully deserving of the present winning streak which they are currently enjoying

.The next game is against local rivals Penarth at home on 17th December with no games this week.

The lottery jackpot increases to £3080 this week as no one matched last weeks numbers which were 02 - 11 - 17 and 19.
