Barry maintain promotion push

A good week for Barry as they recorded two bonus point victories in the last week to maintain their push for promotion.

The first came with a victory at Aberdare last Wednesday to be followed by a hard earned win by 34 - 10 at Heol Y Cyw last Saturday.

Whilst the midweek win was comprehensive, Saturdays game was not decided until the final minutes of a tense encounter.

Cyw took an early lead after 3 minutes with a converted try and Barry were kept on the defensive as they struggled to achieve much possession.

Things got worse as they conceded a penalty after losing a lineout to go 10 points down in as many minutes.

This reverse stung Barry into action and a series of penalties gave them territory in the home 22. The pressure finally told as Cyw conceded an offside penalty under the posts for Kyle Barross to put them on the scoreboard.

The Cyw attacking style was challenging Barry and only good defensive efforts denied them a further score.A penalty gave them some respite, but their efforts in attack were being thwarted by inaccuracy at vital times.

Cyw always ready to move the ball were also guilty of handling errors and it was to cost them dear as Barry attacked from a breakdown to spread the ball wide leaving Christie Lockyer to cross for try and with Kyle Barross converting this early second half score brought the teams level.

With both sides now intent on attacking, the game moved from end to end with chances created by both sides but errors and two solid defences making scoring difficult.

The stalemate was broken as Barry were awarded a penalty and with the wind in their favour Kyle Barross converted the chance from far out.

An error at the restart saw Cyw attack and drive their way the Barry line for a converted try putting them back in the lead at 17 - 13 with some 20 minutes left.

A fine run from Alyn Evans saw him halted 5m short of the line to get the scrum as the ball was held.Staying in the 22 Barry maintained the pressure and with Cyw finally running out of numbers, Brad White crashed over for the try which again Kyle Barross converted and Barry were now in the lead 17 - 20.

Still Cyw came back on the attack helped by more Barry errors and a tense 5 minutes ensued as they had to defend for their lives.Aided by some overelaborating Cyw lost their chance and a Barry break saw Kyle Barross chip ahead into space and as he regathered the bouncing ball he was on his own to cross for the try which he again converted to make the score 17 - 27 with only minutes to go.

Determined to get back into the game Cyw launched a series of attacks which again threatened but ended as a long pass to the wing was intercepted by Danny Ryan who raced 50m to cross for the bonus point try again Kyle Barross added the extras.

The score brought the final whistle to what had been an exciting game which in reality could have gone either way.

The win moved Barry into third place in the Table with two games remaining. The first of these was at Llanharan last night, with the final game away at Taffs Well this Saturday kick off 2.30pm.

Barry need to win both games and hope that their challengers slip in one of their three remaining games.

The Lottery again rolls over this week as last week's numbers of 02 - 05 - 08 and 24 were not matched, two tickets claimed the prize for matching three numbers. This week the Jackpot stands at £4150
