Rumney 2nd XV 5-24 Barry 2nd XV
Tries: Robertson (2), Miles, Moyle
Cons: Robertson (2)
Barry 2nd XV finally returned to action after a series of cancellations due to adverse weather conditions with them travelling to Rumney.
Their hosts were flying high in the table with an unbeaten league record this term, whilst the green-and-whites were unable to take a full squad in this league fixture; some might argue that they travelled more in hope than expectation.
The reality was very different.
On a clear wintry afternoon, Barry took the game to their hosts and promptly came away with a bonus point victory.
Coaches Rhidian Scott and Glyn Pirso were forced to shuffle the pack with numerous players injured or otherwise unavailable, and they handed a long awaited return for Danny Williams in the second row, whilst Luke Hewitson returned as full-back. Nick Rolfe made his first appearance of the season amongst the replacements.
In a demonstration of the spirit and character of the Barry squad, the visitors ran in four tries with fly-half Dylan Robertson dictating matters. He also bagged a brace and two conversions.
Harry Moyle and John Miles also crossed for the green-and-whites as Rumney suffered their first defeat of the season.
Barry 2nd XV will return to action on 3rd March at home to St. Peters.
Team: Hewitson; Webb, Peake, Evans, Lee; Robertson, Thomas; Hall, Davies, Ring; Williams, Deyes; Miles, Boyt, Moyle
