Added time heartbreak for Barry

Barry travelled to face League Leaders Cilfynydd looking to close the points gap and came agonisingly close to doing this before conceding a try in the 5th minute of time added on which gave the home side a victory by 17 - 13, a result Barry will feel did not do their  efforts justice.

The game opened with Barry probing the home defence and gained an early penalty chance which sailed just wide.

Opportunities were hard to come by for both sides as defences were in control and the game resembled a game of chess for the first quarter.,in fact it was 30 mins. before the first points were scored when Barross succeeded with a penalty chance.

This score finally brought the game to life and following a penalty which took play into the home 22, Barry drove hard at the Cilfyndd line with a series of mauls which appeared to be coming to nothing when the ball was scooped up by Barross to cross unopposed for a try which the same player converted to give them a 10 point lead as half time neared.

Cilfynydd came straight back as Barry failed to control the restart giving the ball away, and with the defensive line out of position, took the opportunity to cross for a converted try.

Going back on the attack Barry were fortunate not to concede a second try in as many minutes as an interception should have produced a score but fortunately they scrambled back in defence and the chance was wasted.Cilfyndd kept Barry pinned down for the remaining seconds of the half but could not score so at half time the score was 10 - 7 in Barry's favour, which was a fair reflection on the game so far

.Barry had an early chance to increase their lead as the game restarted but again the ball sailed wide.Cilfynydd began to use their threequarters more and looked threatening on occasion only to be let down by some poor handling and a solid Barry defence.

Cilfynydd maintained this pressure and Barry conceded two quick penalties to find themselves on their goaline.Opting for the scrum the ball was moved wide to find the winger who crossed wide out for an unconverted try,and more importantly the lead for the first time with still some 20mins to go.

That lead was lost straight away as Barry forced Cilfynydd to concede a penalty from the restart, with this time Barross being successful to put them a point ahead.

With the clock running down both teams looked for attacking opportunities but as had been the case all afternoon neither of these well matched teams were prepared to give anything away and a stalemate ensued.

The game had entered time added on as Barry were penalised on half way with the resultant kick taking play into the Barry 22.

Despite initially appearing to have the ball covered Barry were undone by the pace on the outside and Cilfynydd crossed for the winning score

with the final whistle going immediately after.

Barry will be naturally disappointed with the outcome but could not have tried harder against an efficient opposition who deserve their position in the table.

With still seven games to go there is still all to play for before the season ends.

The next fixture is against St Peters at home on the 24th March kick off 2.30pm.
