On a day when few games were played,Barry entertained Cardiff opposition in St Josephs in a League fixture and despite the conditions came out worthy winners by 13 - 8.

Playing up the slope Barry started brightly and were soon rewarded for their efforts as Kyle Barross slotted over an early penalty.

Difficult handling conditions were making for errors and Joe's took advantage of a home knock on to break from the scrum at pace, where quick hands saw the defence breached for the opening try which went unconverted but gave the visitors a 5 - 3 lead.

The heavier visitors eight was causing Barry problems at scrum time not helped by the underfoot conditions, but good work from the back row was still providing them with enough possession to attack when the opportunity arose.

Despite finding themselves in the visitors 22 for some minutes Barry were unable to break the quick up defence and a long clearance put St Joes back into Barry territory from where they attacked.

Again the Barry defence held firm, turning the ball over only to concede a penalty giving the visitors a simple kick at goal to increase the lead to 8 - 3.

Barry as always remained competitive and harassed the visitors into errors where they were unlucky not to score after a foot race to the line saw the ball held up on the wet surface when a try looked certain.

Despite one lapse Barry maintained the pressure on the visitors where they earned a penalty at the lineout.Winning the ball saw Barry drive for the line and as the move was halted a clever sleight of hand pass from Alyn Evans gave Danny Ryan the try wide out and with a fine conversion by Kyle Barross Barry went into half time with a two point lead at 10 - 8

With the elements now in their favour the game was Barry's to win assuming they played the right tactics and for the first twenty minutes did just that, keeping the visitors pinned down and getting frustrated and whilst their only reward was a penalty from Kyle Barross  they insured that the visitors would have to score from deep to get back in the game.

For some inexplicable reason Barry changed tactics and began using tentative chips ahead which did nothing but give the visitors attacking opportunities which they had been starved of for all of the second half.This tactic saw Barry under pressure and only desperate defence and the conditions got them of the hook and could have cost them dearly.

Happily they saw the light and reverted to what had been successful as the game entered it's final minutes and whilst St Joes made speculative moves to attack Barry held them in a vice,pinned down to an extent it was the Barry eight who were now on top and the visitors had no answer.Barry failed with a further couple of penalty attempts but saw the game out for a fine win.

That's three wins from five for Barry a start perhaps they didn't expect, but one they have rightly earned as they have shown 

huge commitment and a team spirit which is obvious to see.

Winning builds confidence and they are beginning to show that in abundance and with new faces in the squad some strength in

 depth is being created.

They will need that in the coming weeks as they face the top three sides in the League, Treorchy, Rhydfelin and Rumney

There are no League fixtures this weekend due to the World Cup Final, but if you
