November Update from Management Committee

I hope you are all keeping SAFE and WELL!

On behalf of the Management Committee (MC) I would like to bring you all up to speed on matters arising from the Month of November 2020:

Sam Bowditch

Our Rugby Brother Sam Bowditch is still lying seriously ill in the UHW Cardiff. We have been keeping in touch with Sam's Mother, Sarah and she is providing us with much appreciated updates. Sam has been showing signs of improvement over recent weeks along with some periodic relapses.  Sam is a fighter and we pray that he will punch through this tough period of illness and make a full recovery, no matter how long it takes!

The family are on an emotional rollercoaster at the moment and Sam's boy Solomon is understandably missing his Dad!  So with this in mind the club and the Directors have jointly donated £400 to the family to ensure that Solomon has some pleasant distractions to hopefully take his mind off his Dad's absence over the Christmas Festivities.

I hope everybody will join with us in sending Sam and his Family our best wishes during this very difficult time for them all.

Ongoing Negotiations with the Vale of Glamorgan Council

The MC are currently in the midst of very important negotiations with senior representatives from the VOG Council.  We are discussing a number of proposals in relation to securing the long term future of the clubhouse and pitches.  Suffice to say some of the proposals made by the club have been received positively by the VOG and we hope to be in a position to update you soon with the some very positive outcomes and plans for the future.

Plans to Extend the Clubhouse Building

We are currently in consultation with a number of outside agencies in relation to the feasibility of extending the clubhouse.  We have to find a way to make Barry RFC more sustainable and the provision of larger more modern facilities will enable us to Integrate with our local community on so many different levels as we move forward into the future.

Last Saturday (Pictured) we met with ex-player Tasos Asprou.  We have engaged Tasos's Company 1010 Architects to carry out a provisional feasibility study and provide us with some plans and ideas for this project.  Please rest assured that we will keep you all informed of any significant progress moving forward.

Reaching out to our local Community

In simple terms we need to open up the club's facilities to other service users and providers and in doing so bring our local community and youth into the club.  We will never lose our identity as a Rugby Club that will always come first and foremost!  However, we have to find a way to become more sustainable and in doing generate other incomes streams.

We are already in talks with a number of different charities and prospective bodies that would benefit from the use of our existing facilities.  If anybody is aware of any charitable organization or small business that would benefit from the use of the club's facilities then please feel free to contact either myself (mprosser.barryrfc@gmail.com) or our club secretary Jon Venners (jvenners.barryrfc@gmail.com)

Christmas Raffle

A Big thanks to everybody concerned with putting the raffles together this year, particularly Chris Briard and John Anthony.  We decided that in these unusual times that for this year's raffle £5 worth of free tickets would be given to each member upon payment of this years reduced membership fee of £25.  I would ask that anybody who has not yet paid there annual membership to do so as soon as possible because the club needs all the financial support we can gather for reasons I trust are self explanatory.

We are also paying into the raffle fund £5 worth of free tickets in relation to each Patron of the Club.  Plenty of tickets still available to so please those of you who have not yet bought tickets get a move on before it's too late.

In Conclusion

Hopefully, we will all soon begin to see some light at the end of the tunnel and fingers crossed some form of competitive touch rugby in the new year.  This will only happen if we all act responsibly and put our safety and the safety of others above all else.

If any body has any matters that they would like to raise with the MC then please do not hesitate to contact us.

Many Thanks to you all.
