Message from the Chairman

You have already been informed in a previous FB message that there are some challenging times ahead for Barry RFC both on and off the field of play in relation to the restructuring of the club’s management framework as we move towards incorporation.
In recent years and certainly during my years of service the committee has sadly always struggled to attain its full complement of members meaning that those present have always had to multitask. This has not been easy as I am sure you will appreciate.
Thankfully in recent months we have had an influx of 7 or more new committee members all of which are of a younger generation to me and so it makes sense, for the good of the club, that they should be led by someone of the same ilk.
To that end and I must confess with a heavy heart, I have decided to step down and not offer myself for re-election at the AGM on September 3rd. It was always my intention to retire at the end of the 2020-21 season anyway, so it makes sense because of the foregoing to do so a year early.
I love Barry RFC dearly and it has been a great privilege and an honour to have been given the opportunity to serve it and you over the last 10 years as its Secretary and more recently over the last 3 years as both its Chairman and Secretary. It is a journey That I have enjoyed immensely and I would have not changed it for the world. To those of you who have supported me over those years I offer my heartfelt thanks and appreciation and I wish you and yours well for the future especially in these unprecedented times.
There are exciting times ahead for Barry RFC and so in closing I would ask you all to get behind the new chairman and support him and his team as best as you can because as someone recently remarked the sky is the limit if everyone pulls together in the same direction.
