Barry Rugby Club held their Annual Awards Evening at the Clubhouse last Saturday.

Players and Supporters alike filled the Club to celebrate an outstanding season where they gained promotion to Division 1 for the first time in the Club's history.

In a change to the usual guest speaker, this year the Club were entertained by comedian Paul James who's risque sense of humour was well received by an appreciative audience.

Brian Davies, a Captain of the Club in the late nineties and now Elite Performance Director for the Sports Council for Wales joined the gathering to present the awards.

Peter Froud provided an enjoyable meal once again, and thanks go him and his hard working staff.

As ever Carol and her staff kept the Bar ticking over until the early hours,thanks go to them also.

In his welcoming speech the Chairman paid tribute to the efforts of Players, Coaches and background staff who had achieved so much this year whilst not forgetting the efforts of Joel Williams for his hard work in keeping the 2nd XV on the field.

He finished by mentioning those members and friends the Club has sadly lost in the past year.

It was then onto the Awards for the evening

Club Colours were awarded to the following for achieving 50 games for the Club.

They were,  Sam Bowdich,Ethan Dicks,Jake Goodfellow,Luke Hewitson,Harry Moyle and Richie O'Sullivan.

Club Head Coach, Jon Bryant, then announced the winners of the playing awards.

The Player of the Year award went to Harry Moyle for his outstanding season.

The Club Player of the Year went to Tom Perry.

The Bethan Howell Award, presented by Lyn Howell, went to Gareth Hall in recognition of his commitment to the squad this year.

The Most Improved Player Award for the First XV was awarded to flying winger Dylan Robertson.

Glynn Pirso then took over to announce the awards for the 2nd XV.

Player of the Year went to Jon Morris with Luke Hewitson receiving the award as Most Improved Player.

It was then the turn of the Chairman to annThounce the winners of what was expected to be the final two awards.

Firstly he announced Andy Jamieson as the Clubman of the Year.

The Chairmans Award when announced, was received to prolonged applause and cheering,as James Hollister stepped forward to receive the trophy.

James was injured during the season which has seen him wearing a head and neck brace for the past three months and he still waits to have it removed.

Despite this, he has missed only one game since his injury,and that only because the brace had slipped and he was at the hospital getting fixed.He has continued to support his team mates and is seen as the father figure to many of them.

In a final twist, the Club felt that the achievement of getting promotion should be recognised and it was decided to award a 

commemerative medal to all those who had been part of the momentous season, 49 in total.

That brought the end to the official part of the evening and the Club are grateful for the generosity of Channing's Dental Services who kindly sponsored the trophies for a second year

Congratulations go to all the winners and soon it will be time to meet the challenges next season is bound to bring.

The night carried on into the early hours and as numbers drifted away to the sounds of the Dad's Army Choir the evening came to a natural end.
