Christmas 2021

May I firstly on behalf of the directors at Barry RFC wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. I sincerely hope that next year will be a happier year for us all!

At the recent AGM the directors set out the club’s five-year plan identifying our targeted goals for ongoing improvements and the future of Barry RFC. I do not propose to traverse across the announcements that were made, a copy of the chairman’s address has been uploaded onto the club website.

What will be clear from our plans for the future is that in order to achieve our goals we need to move forward as one club. There are key improvements to our facilities that we have identified and targeted but we will struggle to reach those goals if we do not all pull together as one club and with this in mind the directors will invite in the New Year all our members, volunteers and age grade parents to attend a meeting at the club to outline the above-mentioned and look at how we can proactively raise funds to achieve our goals.

The directors had hoped that we could end the year with the pandemic firmly in the rear-view mirror. Clearly that is not going to be the case, well not just yet anyway.  Let’s hope that this latest omicron spike is just a bump in the road on the journey back to normality.

Regrettably, we now have to abide by the regulated rules laid down by Welsh government.  We have to be proactive in order to safeguard the well-being of you all and we are taking a number of steps with immediate effect, namely:

  • The clubhouse will be closed from midnight on Christmas Eve until Saturday, 8 January 2022.
  • There will be no training or use of club training facilities from now until 8 January 2022. This applies to all teams at all age grade levels throughout the club.
  • The directors will meet on Wednesday, 5 January to review ongoing restrictions.

If anybody has any queries in relation to any of the above please liaise with your team managers in the first instance and then defer to our director of rugby, Liam Scott.

Finally, the directors would like to thank you all very much for your commitment and support over the past 12 months.  Please be under no illusion the directors are committed to providing the best facilities for all our players and in doing so we will strive to achieve our ultimate ambition to secure the long term future of Barry RFC and play rugby football at the most competitive level. We can only achieve this with your continued support so again I sincerely and genuinely thank you all
