13-men Barry downed in Llanishen

Barry 2nd XV travelled to Llanishen on Saturday hoping to continue with their upward momentum.

Their preparations were not helped by disruptions due to injuries and players unavailable, plus the on-going Six Nations.  Nonetheless, Barry managed to field another competitive side as they travelled to the capital.

Barry began the game with an intensity that their hosts struggled to live with, and were rewarded early on when Ethan Dicks intercepted to race through for a converted try.

Unfortunately that was as good as it gets as Barry’s threadbare squad were exposed in the latter parts of the game.

Llanishen came back into the game with a measured approach and negated the power of the Barry scrum by going uncontested.

Barry kept on battling but it was the home side who went into the interval ahead on points.

With the hosts rolling on their substitutes, Barry unleashed player-manager Joel Williams after a long injury lay-off to try to stem the tide.

However, a serious injury to Dominic Busuttil halted the visitors in their tracks and disrupted any attacking momentum.  We wish him a speedy recovery.

Barry defended as a unit but their opponents’ fresh legs held sway in the second period, despite the efforts of Cotter, Hewitson and Allen in his second game for the club.

The visiting side had to see out the latter periods of the game with only thirteen on the pitch following more injuries as Llanishen made hay.

The final result of 32-7 was harsh on a Barry side full of spirit.  Let us hope that they can regroup after the next round of Six Nations games to return with a bang.
