On behalf of the Management Committee (MC) it is with somewhat mixed emotions that I make the following announcements

I say mixed emotions because it is with sadness that our Honorary President, Mr. Mal Scott (or Hoffi as he is better known around these parts) has recently notified the MC of his decision to stand down as the President of Barry RFC.  Mal has been a lifelong servant of the club and his discreet touchline etiquette and his silky compering skills at the clubs annual dinner will be sorely missed, well hopefully not because I sincerely hope that Mal will continue to support the boys on a Saturday and attend the Club on a regular basis.

The MC wishes Mal all the best for the future and extend to him our deepest thanks for the contribution and commitment he has both given and shown to the club over many years.

On a much happier note the MC are pleased to announce that stepping into the Honorary role of President at Barry RFC Ltd with immediate effect will be Mr. Brian Davies.  

Brian has a lifelong association with the Club.  He was an exceptional scrum half in his day and reached the pinnacle of his rugby playing career when he captained one of England’s best-known premiership clubs Saracens.  Brian also has the honor to be recognized in the Saracen’s Hall of Fame, which is in itself a fantastic achievement.  Testament to Brian’s commitment to Barry RFC  was never more exemplified than when at the end of his professional rugby playing career he came straight back to Barry RFC to play out his twilight years and even captained the club for a season back in 2002.

Brian is currently The Director of Elite Performance at Sport Wales.

When Brian was approached by the Club and offered this role his reaction was quite frankly overwhelming.  He expressed to us in no uncertain terms how honored he was to be asked to take up the position and made it clear that he was very much looking forward to being involved back at the club.  Brian has a vast amount of experience to offer and notwithstanding the position of President of Barry RFC Ltd is an Honorary position I am sure that Brian will be an integral part of our plans for the future.
