Depleted Barry exit cup

With a depleted 1st XV squad, Barry travelled to Rhiwbina more in hope than expectation.

With their illustrious host trying to stamp their authority early on, Barry had to work hard to keep Rhiwbina abay.

Unfortunately it was not enough as the Cardiff side scored a well-worked try to go into a 5-0 lead.

Barry fought back, utilising their strong runners in midfield to gain territory, and after several Rhiwbina indiscretions, Kyle Barros' boot put the visitors in the lead with two penalties.

The host would respond with a converted try at the half-hour mark, but Barry refused to give in and from a well-worked move off a line-out, Tom Perry crashed over for the visitor's first try of the game.  Barros failed to add the extras.

At half time the score was 12-11 and it seemed as if an upset, if unlikely, was still possible.

Rhiwbina put paid to that with a 20-minute blitz that put the result beyond doubt.  Barry were unable to stem the tide brought on by the fresh legs from the home side.

Barry did have a say in the final stages, however, when sustained pressure allowed the ball to be spread out wide and John Miles dove in the corner for a consolation score.

With pride in tact, Barry will return to league action next weekend against Cardiff Quins.
