Fixture

Barry visited Canton in a league fixture last Saturday and came home with a fine 46-3 victory to maintain their promotion challenge. Star of the show was winger Brad White who scored what may well be a Club record five tries.
Playing in conditions more suited to their strengths Barry opened brightly and following a couple of fine breaks by Hadfield and Evans the ball was spread quickly across the backs for White to cross for his first try which went unconverted.
This early reverse brought the home team to their senses as they started to gain some momentum up front with driving mauls which required Barry to be at their defensive best to halt.
It was the visitors turn to use the same tactic which produced the second try as following a drive the ball found
Giddings who battled over the line, the conversion again being unsuccessful.
Barry were to lose Hadfield to injury replaced by Lee Jones, a pity as he had been creating problems for the home defence.
Canton finally got on the scoresheet following a penalty for not releasing the ball.
This seemed to lift them as for the next ten minutes their aggression at the ruck and maul unsettled the Barry eight.
An unusual game of footie broke out which somehow gave Barry a foothold in Canton territory, and was to see Barry lose the ball over the line on two occasions as they fought to increase the lead before half time.
They achieved this when following a couple of Canton attacks, Dicks intercepted to run 50yds. and find White who crossed under the posts for a try, which somehow they failed to convert ,to give them a 15-3 half time lead.
Starting the half with only 14 men after an earlier yellow Barry raised the tempo but were guilty of not being able to control the ball and conceding penalties but no points.
Mepham replaced Scott as Barry became more accurate with their passing and after a good break by Hollister and Jones the ball was recycled to Einan Scott who weaved his way through the home defense
to score a fine try but one which he could not convert.
Lee came on to replace Gallivan as Barry appeared to be getting on top in most facets of play and it came as no surprise when from a planned move Scott fed White at full speed to score a superbly worked try under the posts, converted by Scott.
With the bonus point gained Barry made further changes with Tanner and Evans being replaced by Pirso
and Parker, making a welcome return after a long injury absence.
Barry were to add further tries from Giddings and a brace from White before the end to gain a comprehensive victory.
A good result from a good team performance is the message from this game.
However things could be tougher this weekend as Llantwit Major, currently third in the table , are the visitors,
kick off at 2.30.pm.Plenty of home support would be good to see on Saturday to cheer the boys on.
