Barry dominate local derby

Tries:  Evans, White
Cons:  Barros (2/2)
Pens:  Barros (5/5)

Barry produced  a highly convincing performance away to Penarth last saturday to gain ample revenge for the loss at home suffered earlier in the season.
As  a team performance this could not  have been better as the whole fifteen thwarted the seasiders throughout the game stifling everything they had to offer with a solid defence and some fine attacking play. The fact that Barry only scored two tries in the 29-3 victory is also a credit to the Penarth defence.
The bonus for Barry was the goalkicking of Kyle Barros who enjoyed a 100% record scoring 19 points with two conversions and five penalties which in the windy conditions was a magnificent achievement.
Barry opened the game using backs and forwards to drive into home territory and were rewarded with a penalty after 2 minutes to give them the lead.
At the home fixture Barry had suffered a bit of a roasting up front, but there was to be no repeat of that as the pack produced a platform to let the backs loose.A strong forward drive saw Barry gain 50yds and earn a penalty to double their lead.
The next ten minutes belonged to the seasiders as they launched a series of attacks which although they got close to the line Barry's well organised defence held firm.
Regaining the ball from one such attack Barry drove upfield deep into the 22 and from a penalty awarded near the line, the ball reached Alyn Evans who was to driven over the line for the first try which with the add ons gave Barry a 13-0 lead after 30 minutes.
Back came Penarth on the attack and they were rewarded with a successful penalty.
On half time with Barry cleverly varying their game a forward drive earned them another penalty which brought the score to 16-3 as the whistle went.
The first minutes of the second half saw both sides playing open rugby and although Barry were enjoying a majority of possession they were being met by a stubborn home defence who refused to yield, and it was another penalty which was to increase their lead.
As the half moved on Barry had the match of the home forwards and began to steal ball from both scrum and lineout. finally leading to a penalty which took the lead to 22-3.
The restart saw Barry penalised  and having to defend as Penarth drove at the lineout and looked to threaten the line but once again were turned over at the scrum to lose possession. With time running out and Penarth still attacking Barry stole the ball and broke out to end in the home22 to earn the put in at the scrum. Taking it on through the forwards,
two drives failed to crack the defence, but then going wide the ball found Brad White to cross for the try which when converted from wide out and into a wind by Barros saw Barry lead by 29-3.
This proved to be the final score and brought Barry their ninth League victory of the season meaning they are now in second place.
Both sides are to be complimented on providing an enjoyable game for the watching crowd
and can enjoy a well earned Christmas break.
Barry's next fixture is home on January 2nd against Gwernyfed a day on which full details of the Barry Rugby Club Lottery will be available.
