On a day when most fixtures were victims of the weather, Barry travelled to unbeaten Porth in the second round of the Swalec Plate.

Despite huge efforts by the Club to remove surface water from the pitch, conditions were far from ideal and became worse as the wind and driving rain made for the expected error strewn game which nevertheless didn't lack effort and energy from the players.

Barry played with the elements in the first half and it was obvious that the far heavier home pack would be a major influence on the outcome of the game and so this proved to be.

Dominating territory in the opening minutes Barry pressed for an early score but whilst getting close were unable to breach the home defence and to be content with a couple of penalties, one of which was kicked by Baros to give them the lead.

As expected Porth were finding it difficult to get momentum into their game and use their

speedy backs.When they managed to get ball, keeping it in hand was proving impossible.

Changing tactics to kicking brought rewards as Barry were now being forced to deal with the slippery ball and following a series of scrums their line was breached as they were driven over the line to concede a try after 20 minutes.

This coincided with a period of sustained pressure from the home side who conjured a second try following some indisclipine at the breakdown to give them a lead of 12-3.

Not deterred Barry came back with some good interplay and again got close to scoring but once again their only reward was a penalty converted by Baros

Before half time Barry were defending. on their line and despite winning the ball lost it in contact to concede a soft try which to be fair their hard work didn't deserve.

This last passage of play before half time gave the home side a 17-6 lead.

It was obvious that the home team with their advantage up front and the elements in their favour would seek to keep Barry penned back and so it was as they drove to the line from an early penalty to score and extend their lead.

Porth were not to to have it all their own way as Barry somehow managed to get some parity at the scrum and their efforts were worthy of some reward but it was not to be.

Still enjoying most of the possession Porth were able to create two further tries as conditions by now had turned the game into a lottery and as the light faded both sides were glad to hear the final whistle.

Despite this loss Barry can be proud of their efforts and despite playing a very good opponent the score does not truly reflect this.The sides will meet twice in the League before the season end, hopefully on dry ground.

This weekend Barry travel to Penarth in a return League fixture with Barry looking to avenge the home defeat earlier in the season. Kick Off 2.30pm

Whilst saturdays game was a lottery, the lottery on everyone's lips is the new Barry Rugby Club Lottery to be launched on the 9th January 2016.

Starting with an opening jackpot of £1,000 the game will require players to match 4 numbers from 24.

The aim of the lottery is to enable the Club to maintain and improve the facilities currently

being provided for over 300 players in an environment where costs are escalating year by year.

Should the jackpot not be won , it will be increased by 50% of the previous weeks sales.
