Barry Return to Winning Ways

Following their one point defeat last week Barry bounced back as they visited Llanishen last Saturday to record a convincing 20 - 5
victory with probably their best performance of the season to date.
As seems normal these days Barry took time to settle having had to make more changes to the squad again this week.
As they did this Llanishen showed their intent on playing an open game and bossed the early minutes with a series of attacks which took play into the Barry 22.They got their reward as they drove at a lineout to cross for a try wide out and a 5 point lead.
Not deterred Barry came straight back from the restart where Tom Perry made the initial break finding Luke O'Sullivan in support for the flanker to outpace the defence and cross for the try, converted by Kyle Barross to put them into the lead.
They could have had a second moments later only to be called back for a forward pass.
The scrum was slowly gaining the upper hand and led to the next Barry score as Llanishen were penalised, giving Kyle Barross his second success of the afternoon and a lead of 10 - 5.
The persistent rain and greasy ball were not helping either side and for Llanishen neither was the uncompromising Barry defence which halted every attempted attack and still created opportunities for themselves.
As the half ran down, play was taking place between the 22's with neither side able to get an advantage and that is how it remained until the whistle.
Barry opened the second half with some probing attacks but also conceding some penalties which with the conditions was not unexpected.Llanishen for their part continued to try and play an expansive game but with no success as they were unable to find a way through the Barry defence or hold onto the greasy ball.
It was then Barry's time to test the home defence as they launched an attack which took play into the 22 where twice they were held up just short. Showing patience they recycled the ball which found Kyle Barross in space to slip over for a try which he converted to give Barry the lead at 17 - 5.
As the game restarted the home side obviously frustrated by their failure to breach the Barry defence, changed tactics, opting to kick for territory and hope for errors under the high ball.
Barry coped well with this tactic and began to control the game despite the setback of injuries which fortunately didn't unsettle the side.
They maintained this control and home attacks became less and Barry probed for a further score which would secure the win with time running out.
The chance came as Llanishen infringed on the floor and Kyle Barross kicked the penalty to put them 3 scores clear.
That was to be the final score of the match to give Barry a well deserved victory 20 - 5.
This was as much a squad victory where defensive frailties from last week were all but eliminated and each player played their part. Bearing in mind the number of injured players still unavailable, some strength in depth is developing which can only bode well for the remainder of the season.
