News updates

By Jon Venners

The committee are pleased to report that during this surreal lockdown period we have been keeping busy moving the club forward and continued our meetings remotely on Zoom. This has been somewhat challenging to a few of us oldies and has at times been a source of amusement but has been positive. We can report the following: -

Shower System -
we are in discussions to upgrade the system which I’m sure you’ll all agree is long overdue and hopefully this will take place in the next few weeks.

Pitch Move -
We are in discussions with the Vale of Glamorgan Council (VOGC) and a Sportsground Maintenance Company with regards to the current pitch layout. It has always been a desire to move the first team pitch and have the half way line directly in line with the Clubhouse. This will, we believe, be conducive for a better atmosphere not only for the players but also for our loyal supporters. We are pleased to announce that the VOGC have agreed to this move in principle and we are actively engaged in planning for this move before the commencement of next season, whenever this will be decided by the WRU in-line with the Welsh Governments ongoing advice with regards to COVID-19.
We are also planning three to four dedicated mini pitches for our healthy mini section which should then free up more space for the juniors as well, we are extremely fortunate to have a very healthy M&J’s section of which we fully support as they are the future players of the club.

Club Operations Manager -
All WRU affiliated clubs have weekly updates from the WRU and last weeks message they have asked all clubs to appoint a Club Operations Manager here’s an extract from last weeks letter -

As a sport we are looking to the impact of Covid19 on our game and how we look to return to rugby safely. Led by Welsh Government guidelines, we are exploring the early stages of planning a potential return to train and ultimately play rugby. Part of the process is to develop protocols and guidelines aimed to assist our member clubs manage through this period from an operational perspective. As part of that process we are approaching each of our clubs to nominate a Club Operations Manager to oversee the return to rugby by ensuring the internal plans are in place within your club to enable you to return safely

With this in mind we approached Liam Scott our Head Coach and we are pleased to announce Liam has been accepted and been appointed ‘Club Operations Manager’ to develop protocols and guidelines for the whole club to return to training and playing safely. All coaches and team managers will be hearing from Liam in due course so please look out for Liam’s future communications.
Thanks for your time and we look forward to seeing you all when we are allowed, in the meantime stay safe.
