The Board of Directors are pleased to announce the appointment of our current Head Coach Liam Scott to become the new Director of Rugby at Barry RFC.
Liam has been working as part of the coaching team at the club for the past few years and he is a key part of the club's plans for the future. We have a great senior coaching and management team in place at the moment in the form of Mike Morgan (Backs Coach), James Hollister (Forwards Coach) and Joel Williams (Team Manager). All have been working tirelessly throughout the pandemic to motivate and condition our senoir players, as have our amazing age grade volunteers and coaches.
Now that rugby is starting to return to some form of normality we need to plan for the future. Age grade rugby is thriving at the club and this season we have seen a number of youth players embark on the road to senior rugby and it has been exciting to see how well some of these young players have adjusted and fitted straight in, Jack Long to name one who has been a stand out player in the pack so far this season.
To keep that conveyor belt of talented rugby players rolling through the club we have decided to place a far greater focus on our rugby pathway and age grade player development. A new Rugby Committee has been formed, which will be headed up by Liam, the first meeting taking place this week.
Liams responsibilities will include:
Role Involves: Head Coach for 1st XV Leadership and management of the rugby pathway within Barry RFC, inclusive U7-Senior Rugby, with a focus on player retention and development from U14-Youth-Senior Ensure all coaches ; referees are suitably qualified Creating a clear and engaging rugby pathway through U7-Senior Rugby Creating and delivering the ‘Bombers way’ of developing players across all age groups.
